PREFACE
Are you asking yourself, “Who is this person” or “Why should I care”? Maybe you already know me, and just want to learn more about what makes me tick, lol. Or maybe you just want to know where life is leading me lately.
Whatever your reason, I’m glad you took the time to stop by my blog and show your interest in learning more about the dynamics that make me who/what I am - or strive to become, lol.
Might I suggest you bookmark this page? Considering we are a very complex species by nature, nothing is short or sweet when it comes to the many aspects and dynamics that make each of us who we are. Then considering my ‘chameleon’ nature and … well I could never sit at this keyboard that long, in one sitting and come close to sharing my rather complex, versatile, and hopefully ever growing personality - nor the many events in life that have brought me to where I am today, both good and bad.
Life has provided experiences, that at many times, were beyond my ‘actual’ years of life experience. I have always appreciated the wisdom these experiences brought, but at times find myself questioning MY wisdom - as to the degree of which I have absorbed or retained that experience or wisdom. [See - even my sentences are often complex]
My life can best be described as an “Action packed Comedy [sometimes bad] Drama Suspense True Story of Tragedy and Triumph Soap Opera Mega Series” with a touch of Crime and Horror. Wow! That’s a mouth full of words.
The best short statement I can make to describe myself: “I am quite simply complex and my complexity becomes quite simple to understand, when putting aside all complexity!” But more accurately, “I am a survivor in the face of adversity!”
There is a logic to my illogical decisions I make at times, which often keeps others guessing to my motives. Those who prematurely draw conclusions or deem my motives to be ‘other’ than what I state - will never move pass the point of only guessing. One of my favorite quotes is “Say what you mean, and mean what you say!” I do my best to live by this with only a few exceptions. Those exceptions being sarcasm or jokes and things of that nature.
Words are one of the most powerful tools this life affords, so we should weigh our words and consider their impact - before we dare to convey them. When used for positive reinforcement - it’s all good!
The written word is a chief tool in life to convey our thoughts, inspirations, love, passion, pain, etc. and leave a little history for future generations to reflect upon. Written words are fascinating in any language, wouldn’t you agree?
This fascination for words is probably what makes me so passionate about writing. Don’t get me wrong, I am passionate by nature.
So read at your own leisure, as much or as little as you like, according to your desire and interest. But, by bookmarking this page you can eliminate wasting valuable time in future, trying to ‘navigate’ your way back to this page as details are added, lol. Go ahead, I’ll wait.
MY PHILOSOPHY
- Learning is a life-long process, anticipate each new day as an opportunity to build upon knowledge
- Some lessons require more learning than others- most things worth having don’t come easy or fast
- You receive what you give equally - sometimes
- You receive more than you give -sometimes
- You receive nothing from what you give - never
- Others will give nothing of value with the expectation of receiving rewards - sometimes
- Those who never contribute in a positive nature, still have a purpose of contribution - all the time
- You WILL receive everything you need - always, through the Grace of God
- You will receive everything you desire - you already know this answer silly, no validation needed here [for those who do not know this answer, may I sell you the Golden-Gate at a very cheap price?]
- Do everything with passion and give it your all - then let the chips fall where they may
- Be willing to do the difficult things others will not, and you are sure to be a winner <snickering, there’s no competition, so there’s no way to lose>
- Practice diligence with tenacity and integrity - something good will always be the result
- Karma is good and just - bad Karma is a result of bad actions [it's also a mofo]
Learning who I am is a process still in the making - to a degree. I’m sure you are the same on this note, as we all learn something new with each passing day. But, our ‘base’ character is only the beginning of the person/people we are/become. How we ‘choose’ to make our decisions will build upon that base character; and why we make one choice over another will define what that character becomes.
Now, while this all sounds pretty, I will tell you straight up - I have yet to perfect this philosophy. All things considered - I probably never will due to the fact that I AM NOT perfect. I am only ‘perfect’ at being me, which has many imperfections. Being me, sometimes requires being someone else, to which I admit I am not perfect at. It’s a learning process within a learning process. {I will elaborate this aspect in the details of “The Many Hats I Wear”}
WHAT MY LIFE PATH HAS TAUGHT TO DATE
There have been many twists and turns in my life path. Most of which contained more than one road block. Some of these road blocks provided for an alternate route or detour, allowing a means for passage - so to speak. More often than not though, I found myself facing an obstacle at a dead end.
And that is where many of MY choices, that define who I am today, developed my base character into something more complex. For each obstacle I encounter in life, I continue to refuse the ‘acceptance’ of dead ends when I KNOW there is something ‘more’ beyond. I will admit, that ’something more’ is not always worth pursuing in and of itself - but a lesson is learned each time that proves to be of worth.
Life will dictate that we step back at times - in order to see the larger picture. Some events will require we step back further than we would prefer, but it is only a temporary necessity to enable us ‘to view’ the entire picture [if you may] of the situation. Once we have stepped back (and opened our minds) enough to view the entire ’scope’ of the event, we can then move forward with the knowledge obtained. And as long as we continue to place one foot in front of the other, in a positive light - we are making progress towards changing so-called impossibilities into possibilities. The attitude that obstacles are only hurdles [we must learn to overcome], will always lead us to new, alternate paths or [at the very least] the means to blaze a new path.
It is only when we refuse to ’see the larger picture’ that our minds remain within the confines of a partial image of life, thus we miss most of what life has to offer. My view will remain outside of those confines to enable me to see, not only what lays before me, but to both sides and what I have left behind. Hopefully, when I look behind at my past clips to that larger image, I will have contributed more improvements than damage to that larger picture.
MY LIFE PATH (small sample of numerous events)
- Made my first solo trip to the grocery store at age five [this was also the year my sister and myself helped the police capture a wanted child molester - that's a story in itself]
- Performed on stage for the first time [among celebrities, no less] at age six
- Wrote my first song, and first [published] short story at age seven: Mommy I was Saved Today & The First Man to have a Baby, respectively. This would also be the year I challenged [and won] the dress code for female students by daring to wear trousers/long pants to school. OMG, you should have seen them, I made them myself from bright neon colored fabric scraps - hot pink, bright yellow, lime green, and turquoise blue. *I might share this story one day, lol - it’s a doozie!
- Started my own [school] Rock Band at age nine (we actually practiced during school hours)
- Won my first billiards tournament at the age of 11 years [another policy challenge]
- Struck out on my own at the tender age of 13 years
- Lost my first sibling to homicide at the tender age of 14 years
- Lost my second sibling/second [and last] sister to death; stepped out of the role of Aunt and into the role of Mother [my greatest role to date], to my eldest child, at the tender age of 17 years
- Married two month prior to the age of 19 years
- Attained my GED via continued [self] education
- Modeled for a few years while wearing several other ‘hats’
- Graduated Business Colleged with 4.0/4.0 GPA [Sorry, not really bragging - just making a point]
- Came face to face with -
- Death [many times]
- Murderers
- Armed [guns] Robbers
- Kidnappers
- Car Jackers
- And many other challenges
- Survived Hurricanes Frederick, Ivan, and Katrina - which is truly saying something
- Ivan, while not the worse, was the hardest. It occurred the same year my daughter had a ‘ground breaking’ cranial surgery, during the crucial healing period. The aftermath of damage to our home, coupled with my homeowners insurance carrier’s refusal of my claim had a drastic effect [in my opinion]. I can’t help but think the surgery would have been more successful - had it not been for these things. The upside to this? Her surgery brought new knowledge and understanding about her [my daughter] type of Epilepsy. I allowed the ‘Documenting’ of her surgical procedure to be used as a teaching tool for future Neurologists, and in hopes it would improve the lives of others with epilepsy.
